My 03' has a 2 bolt starter. The other week when I was under the truck I noticed it was very loose!!! I could even turn the bolts by hand. I took it out to make sure the teeth were ok and they were. I am just glad I came across it when I did.
WOW!!! there are starters with 3 bolts??? When I replaced mine, O'Reillys didn't even ask. They just sold me 1 with 2 bolts, just like what I had, something like $169.00 after $40.00 Core charge, maybe a 20 min job.
Thought I would ask, before I spend the $ and time under my truck.
My will not start when the motor is still hot. I am guessing its the Selinoid going south.
I have to sit in the parking lot with the hood open so it would cool faster.
starts like it should when cold. when HOT it does everything is meant to, then when the wait to start light goes off and I turn the key. every thing goes Blank with out even a crank. so I am assuming its just not getting the engaged power from the batteries. Batteries are fine by the way.
will be getting a starting today after work.
any Idea's or suggestions?
Hey, sometimes when the starter will not turn over, you can rap the starter housing with a hammer a couple times and that will enable it to engage - it's worked for me to get me home or to some place to better handle the problem. This also works on gas burners on the fuel pump in the tank - just rap on the fuel tank and that will jar the armature on the little motor inside and get ya going again.

That sounds more like a battery / cable issue to me. If your not 100% sure the batteries are good, have them load tested individually. Otherwise check the cables for corrosion. Don't forget the other ends of the cables and especially the grounds.
Yah MTDewX I had the exact same thing happen to my 01 about a year ago. It worked for awhile to crawl under and tap the starter but the solenoid finally went. Actually the end cap came completly loose from the body. Besides I was tired of crawling under it to get it started (got some funny looks sometimes)
