Shifter linkage

I was going to replace my shift linkage that runs from the shifter down the steering wheel column a while back, but when I opened the column, I decided against it. My shifter is now so sloppy, I can't put it off. Has anyone tackled this job? Any good pointers?

Greg, there was a thread about this a while back. Something about a pin or something need to be tightened. You might do a search on this and see if you can find it.

Sorry I couldn't be more help. Maybe some will chime in that has done this before.

Good luck.

I believe some guys have had good luck by tightening the linkage located below the column. Look above the brake pedal. I believe it was a torx fitting.

Yeah, that worked before and I am going to check it, but the piece is aluminium and was wollering out. I had to replace the shifter a couple of years ago because the wire broke for the cruise and was too short to solder.

I finally got around to checking the linkage under the dash. The two torx bolts were so loose, I could take them out with my fingers. I tightened them with a ratchet and it shifts like a new truck again. Thanks guys. It's little things that get you down on your truck, but when you get them fixed, you love it all again.
