I want to add air to my '55. I'm running the stock 239ci. Which unit would you guys recommend. I don't have any air components so I'll need everything. A complete kit would be the easiest. Thanks
Ray
we have beat this one before and for sure everyone has their own opinion but I am still sold on the Vintage Air units, I'm sure there are other answers to come, I love these kinds of threads
I've used Vintage Air twice and Hypercool once. No real problems with either but the Hypercool is less expensive. You might check with Mike Brown at Rainbow Products Online. www.rainbowproductsonline.com
He sells several brands including VA and seems very knowledgeable on the different components. He most likely can put together a package for you.
I just finished my vintage air instal last sat, It was a unit made for the 54 f100.The quality of the componets are very good and the fit was fine,I paid $1100 for it .from Dannys rod shop 513-722-3522,BUT the directions had me going crazy.if you follow them as written you will be installing and uninstalling to get it all hooked up.I did call vintage a few times and they where good in helpping me sort things out.We charged the unit Sat and it puts out great cold air.It looks good and I am now happy with the finished install;
I have an Old Air unit in my truck. It is a direct replacement unit sold by Mid Fifty. Easy install, not the prettiest on the firewall side (see my "famous" MDD cover in my gallery), but they now offer a hidden connection version.

I'm sold on Mike Brown and Rainbow products. I've used VA a few times and I had unsatisfactory resluts with their tech line. Mike is a knowledgeable guy and a nice guy to boot! VA may have improved their tech line by now? But I'd go with Rainbow again and again
Your profile shows you in TX. You have 5 big companies in your state you might be able to visit in person.
Vintage Air - San Antonio
Old Air Products - Fort Worth
DanHard - Dallas
Classic Auto Air - Dallas
Hot Rod Air - Selma
I have personally bought from Mike Brown and even visited his shop back in October. Straightforward guy who wont sell what you dont need and wont BS you. Best wishes in pursuit of cool air
I bought mine from HOT ROD AIR but have not install it completely. Summit's new catalog list a HRA unit for $724.95. It says it includes evap/heater, compressor and bracket, hose kit and drier, condenser assembly and safety switch. Sounds like a good deal. Check it out.
Thank you all. I'll check them all out. I had no idea there were that many options. I figured VA was about all I had to choose from. I should know better than that at my age!
Ford Car IFS clips on 53-56 F100's and the subject of Air Conditioning in 53-56 F100's are probably my two favorite topics here. So please keep us updated on what you decide and as you go forward with installing AC. Being in TX you possibly could see first hand how the units are built and get a better sense of what you are buying then those of us that have to rely on dealers. Best wishes with your pursuits and do post pictures.
