2000 Excursion V10 4WD

Just bought a 2000 Excursion V10 4WD to tow our race bike trailer.

It has 53K miles and I have a few questions.
  • I want to no if anyone has used a #1200 Superchip and if so what were the results?
  • What do you get the most bang for the buck when it comes to mods for performance. Cold Air intake, shocks, sway bar, larger wheels ….
  • Can you suggest good sites for parts and accessories
Thanks
Alex

For engine perform, dont waste ur money on the tuner. It wont really do anything. Ur best bet is exhaust. And when i mean exhaust replace the Y pipe or known as a "t pipe" because thats how restrictive it is. Intakes and all of that dont work. The only mods that work for performance is gears, y pipe and a S/C. For towing performance ull want to get set up with a hellwig sway bar and bilstein shocks. Also wait for X_Hemi_guy to jump in on the towing performance. He knows everything about this subject.

Yeah, other than gears, I think you will only get minimal performance gains from different accessories on a V10. The truth of the matter is that its a gas hog, there's no way around it. IMHO, I think you're better off saving the money you'd spend on a CAI or tuner and just putting it towards a tank of gas.

Your 2000 doesn't need the Y-pipe change.

A tuner is a great addition to help tune the tranny and give you more mid to high RPM that you'll access during towing.

A CAI is a waste of money. The V10's airbox pulls ambient air as measured by my Scan Gauge II. It will also flow more air than the engine can injest at WOT and 5200rpm. Adding a CAI will do NOTHING. Feel free to add a higher flow, washable filter if you like...just don't expect performance increases.

Exhaust just makes noise unless you upgrade the outlet size. Going to 3.5" out will help.

Sway bar is a must whether towing or not. Get one. Gets shocks second and before any engine upgrades.

Gears are great but you asked about bang for the buck and I'm assuming you don't want to spend $2500+ to regear. If I assume wrong then it IS the best upgrade you can do.

My suggestion:

Hook the truck up to your trailer and drive it.

It requires zero effort, zero extra cash, and will have the best reliability vs. any of the upgrades.

I noticed loss of power while towing 1500 lb trailer up the grapevine in CA. Never happened before. I have 2000 Excursion, 4x4 XLT.

Anyone have the same problem and possible solutions?
