I have an 02 7.3, I try to keep it below 2000 as with no load that really is all it needs - usually get between 15-15.5 around town stop and go, thats beeing nice and coasting to stops and not accelerating hard....... country roads I usually get 16-16.6. Freeway running between 70-75 this winter I've seen 18.8 to 19.4. These are the true numbers hand calculated, I think that I could get an honest 20 on the freeway if I didn't always run into some traffic jam or snow or something. These numbers are only winter/ cold weather, I haven't owned it thru the warm months yet..... realy wish it would hold overdrive below 45 mph and lockup the torque converter below 40, does any one know how to do this?
i drive my V10 pretty easy, and have a average of 12.1 MPG for 5,000 miles on this trip... about 50% of the mileage is towing miles (10,000# TT)... i have got as high as 15.1 highway and as low as 7.4 towing and don't use OD when towing... i have 373 gears and they have worked well so far...
BTY my lie-o-meter, has come very close to the paper calculations every time and i would have to say it is a reliable instrument... the problem with the X is one or two times on the throttle can change the average of one tank of gas a lot... so to really know the average needs to be figured over many tanks of what is normal to you driving...
I normally give her hell but let off at the moment i want to shift and she follows suit...standard shift point is 2250 (the tick between 2 and 2500) but I will rev her before a hill and I coast all the time...wrangler is the same...I do at least 10% better than she does in all vehicles only because I coast more..she is always on a pedal...gas or brake while I coast alot!!! That is where you make the most money...stay above 5-8 mph and you will notice a diff vs accerating from a stop.
I do not need to speed, I just need to drive faster than those around me
I'm getting 6.4-6.8 mpg consistently using regular gas. It's really starting to get to me. I changed plugs, antifreeze, oil, both front wheel bearings, brakes and have tire pressure a 50 psi. Truck has a 4 inch lift, 33" tires, and the v10. I've tried varying driving style, makes no difference. I have no check engine lights, truck runs great and has lots of power. Anyone?
If I could drive 65 I could make awesome mileage, but cruise is normally between 80 and 85. get 16 to 18 at that speed though, summer is a little better. In town is a little different though! I seem to always end up at a stoplight w/ a little tuner car. It's alot of fun smoking them, literally, with a the big old X!!
2003 6.0 Still stock. Around town 12 to 16 mpg. At 65 19 to 20 mpg with moderate load. At 85 15 mpg. With 10Klb trailer at 55-60 14 to 16 FWY and 10 in the hills.
