replaced old starter with new starter on 2004 F250 super duty with 6.0L V8. Now it won't crank. Any ideas what it could be. All wiring hooked back up properly.
Once we installed the new starter, it wouldn't crank. We took the starter off and connected to battery with jumper cables, and it worked perfect. Seems to be a wiring issue once starter is mounted in place and wires are connected. Any ideas of wiring to check or possibly grounded?
A little history would be good. Starting circuts are pretty easy. Make sure the truck is in park or N..Get a test light for starters...LOL no pun intended.
your signature is fitting. I'm sorry if you didn't catch the history in the beginning of the thread. The previous starter was fine but the bracket broke. I was able to purchase a new starter with the bracket for $100, so why not when I was gonna be charged about $70 for a new bracket. SImple replacement and now the truck won't even roll over or make a sound.
Battery gets hot when new starter is installed and acting like a short or not wired right. Thanks for the advice but don't act like your name.
Sounds like the starter may be junk. A battery that is getting hot is not a good sign. The starter should be hot also if it has a short in it..You may have a bad battery also that broke inside when you took a terminal off if you did...You didn't give any history at first thats why I asked. Please don't be rude or your time on here will be short and sweet.
i call 'em like i see 'em. for someone to ask if the truck was in park or nuetral before cranking is rediculous. you call that advice help?
You would be surprised at the number of people that bit of advice has helped. Sometimes we overlook the obvious while troubleshooting a problem - it's called tunnel-vision, and we're all guilty of it at one time or another.
Dick was being sincere with his advice to you, and not just giving out stupid information. Even after you mocked his name, he still contributed more information to try to help.
