Discontinued TRWL2466F

Hey all,
I just had a rude awakening this morning when the machine shop called and said that they could not get the TRW L2466F (8.7/1) pistons. They said they have been discontinued. I wrote Federal Mogul a letter expressing my consern. Anyway, I want my compression. If I would have known this I would have opt'd for the 400 upgrade to get my piston selection, well the crank has already been turned, new flywheel bought and I fell stuck with the 7.9/1 stockers. Does anyone know where to get a set at PLEASE?

Thanks

In my piston quest, I did come accross a set of KB pistons, available on their website, www.kb-silvolite.com They are for a Chrysler 392, but it is a 4.0" bore, they are available in .020" and .030" overbores. it is considered a low compression piston, but the compression height is 1.904", vs. the 351m's height of 1.921. Also, the pin is a little larger, so the rod will have to be bored and bushed. From what I know of these engines, there is enough room to have a .020" taller piston in there, and this will bring your compression up to close to your goal. Unfortunately, Silvolite doesn't make an equivalent to these, so you would be stuck with racing parts. Talk to your machine shop, see what they say. I am fairly sure that the pistons will clear the head, but have them measure the deck heigh just to be sure.

I got some different figures for the pistons.
The 351M is 1.947"
KB's 392 is 1.94

I would definatly look into these. The pin diameter is very close. You will have to add another notch for the intake valve, but if you are running a mild cam it doesn't have to be very big.

I used the badgers (there was a long thread on it)(9.x:1, avail .020 and .040 over), but I keep hearing that you can just use a 351 C piston if you just play with bushing diameters. That might give your more choices than just the Chrysler pistons (which sound like they have to be bushed anyway). If you use Chrysler pistons, do you have to change to a starter that laughs at you when cranking?

Cleveland pistons aren't going to work in his motor. He's building a 351M and the compression height is all wrong for that application. You can only use Cleveland pistons if you're building a 400.

For Hidome, I'd start calling around and seeing if you can locate a set of the TRW pieces which are laying on a shelf somewhere. PAW advertises them, I'd also call Summitt, JEGS, Nothern Auto Parts, etc.

A supplier in Tonawanda, NY just told me that Badger, Ohio Piston and Dynagear is the same. He also said Badger/Ohio is going under and the pistons are only available as off the shelf.

Wow These pistons are worth there weight in gold (maybe more). I found a couple of sets 370-550. The 550 is the gold diggers and there diggin up pistons. Well, I should have me eight big nuggets here soon

Thanks all

This auction is over but they it's typical of the prices that can be found on Ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33623

This guy has a lot of piston auctions, so you may want to ask if he has any more for a 351M.
He has a set of .060" over 351M pistons on auction now, but I don't think you want to go that big.
