so here's another...
Are the cams on our trucks in block or over head? aka, how much of a pain in the *** would it be to put a new one in?
also, how much performance could one get out of this?
thanks
well.. the cam is in the block... my guess to get it out would be a pain in the ***... i havent been able to find "performance" cams for these trucks, i was told they have a "sled pulling" cam, but thats all i know about, but with the stock cam i know plenty people on this site that are making 400-500 hp... so id guess the cam must be pretty good

Ok, thanks for the info...
I was wondering if those guys had perf. cams or not.
would the cams from 94-98's be interchangeable with newer 7.3L?
I know guys running stock cams and 500RWHP, so it is possible with injectors, turbo, good custom tunning (and some other things yes haha). not sure if the stock cam is "only good for so much power" but I know that alot is available... it's putting head studs in that you would need to worry about...
* The valve train was redesigned to replace the cam follower guides and retainer to redesigned cam follower guide assemblies which bolt delivery into the crankcase to hold the follower in place.
* The redesigned roller follower guide assemblies are now held in place with a cap screw for each pair of tappets which has led to the elimination of the roller follower guide retainer.
* This change occurred at engine serial number 375549.
Stock cam is suffiecent for making lots of power. AS far as I know the cam is the same for all 7.3 with the exception that the 99-03 7.3's don't have the lobe for the fuel pump of the 94.5 to 97 trucks.
