Hey guys, I've been hanging around here for a little while now. I have a '65 F250 that my grandpa bought new and I bought from him a couple years ago. That's what got me to this site. However, it is a standard cab and with a growing family, it wasn't working anymore, so I started looking for a crewcab. I found one a couple weeks ago and finally got a picture of it to share.
There is it. It's a 1979. It's kinda rough. It has been sprayed with "Zero Rust" paint so the finish is a bit primer like and it was obviously sprayed a little late because there are signs of rust in the gutters and upper windshield area. I'm going to have to dig into that this summer. Also, for some reason a previous owner converted it to a 390/C6/divorced transfer case truck. It was originally a 400/4spd/married transfer case. To me that's just a really weird mod.....Anyway, there it is. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Maybe that's what he had lying around when something in the original broke. Anyway, that's a great rig - esp. like the short bed. I personally like keeping them close to stock, so I say fix the rust/paint and leave it at that. If you want to do heavy mods, that thing would make one killer Fummins.
Thanks for the reply. Actually, the transmission failed on me about a week after buying it so it's going back to a manual transmission. At least that part will go back to original. That's what I prefer also. Anyone have a set of manual pedals (clutch, brake) they want to sell to me?
I would look closer at the frame and make sure it is not a body swap. check the vin on the pass side to see if it's the same as the cab. That would be a lot of work to do that swap most likely it is a 79 body on older frame or someone put a 79 grill on a older truck. Whats the title say? Almost forgot nice truck! You'll love that project when its done.
78xltcrewcab- The title says 79. It has the F250 emblems on the cowl like it should for a 79. I'm pretty sure it's a full 79 body. You might be right on the frame swap though. I'll have to dig into that a bit more. Where is the VIN on the frame? I got the left side, but in the engine bay?
ChaseTruck 754- You'll have PM in a minute. That would be great if you have the pedals! If you click on that small thumbnail picture, it will take you to larger picture.
ChaseTruck754-For some reason I can't send PMs right now. I don't know why, I used to be able to... I don't even know who to contact to get that fixed up. For now, if you could email me that would be great...... Thanks!
The VIN on the frame should be on the top of the frame rail on the passenger side about where the passenger door is. I was able to see mine when i did a frame off. You might need a mirror to see it. I am sure if you took some pictures of the frame some one on here could tell you what year it is. If you can post some pictures of the front cross member near the stearing box.
something new I learned from THIS SITE is that the VIN is stamped in 2 places on the passenger frame. The one about where the door is and then one up closer to the coil bucket or shock mount in the front
I think it is a 79 frame just because the transfer case mount looks homemade from the little peek I have given it so far. I'll spend more time looking at it this weekend and see if I can find the VIN number on the frame. Thanks guys!
from my experience the VIN takes some work to find. You have to scrape the frame VERY clean to see anything as the numbers aren't stamped deep at all. Even when I though my frame was "clean" I still had a bit of trouble seeing the number - and that is on a california truck with no rust to eat away at the frame.
I'd do a search for "VIN locations" on here to get an exact location. I think it was something Million said that helped me before. I THINK it was "1/2 way between the fire wall and coil bucket (was for my 77 2wd) on the passanger frame"
I did find my VIN there after a little work. It's on the top of the frame rail and most likely covered in a bunch of grime and a bit of rust - have fun!
Okay, I've spent a ton of time crawling around under my truck and I'm not having any luck finding the VIN on the frame. I did notice enough hacking on it to lead me to believe the frame is original though. The cross member the transfer case is mounted on is welded in, and poorly welded. Definitely not factory. There are a couple spots where the frame was notched for the exhaust to clear. It's kind of ugly under there....
I now have a couple new questions from things I have noticed. Since the C6 failed on me and I wanted to make it a manual again anyway, I have been working on collecting parts to swap it back. It has a divorced np203 transfer case. I was planning on sticking a 4spd I had from a 1970 F250 2wd in there and keeping the np203. I was going to do that because it was cheap and easy. Rolling around under there I noticed that the shift linkage for the NP203 bolts to the tail of the C6. My 4spd doesn't have that because it was a 2wd truck. Can I easily make this work together, or should I start searching for the correct transmission/transfer case that was originally in there and start righting all the wrongs that this truck has received?
Also, I really don't know anything about the np203, I just saw that is what it was on the tag..... is that worth keeping in there?
