If it's single-rear-wheel (SRW) you have a Sterling 10.5" in the rear, and a Dana 50 in front.

The new 08' SDs come with a cast finned aluminum Rear diff cover that will fit older trucks as well. An FTE sponsor sells them, I think they cost around $70. I'd like to put one on my 04'. Its a cheaper alternative to an aftermarket cover.

Any more detail on that sponsor that sells them?
They look great, and that's a great price!
I need to know!

and it's my understanding that a Dana 60 cover will fit the front, since you won't find many listed as 50. same housing, w/ D44'ish internals.

This is an option. Its much cheaper and will work the same as stock. If you want to throw more money at it you can, though.

Good point.

I did a quick google for "diff cover sterling 10.5" and it indeed is a 12-bolt (although to me that's a Chevy term).

And there's plenty of Dana 50/60 covers too...

I second the rear diff cover from DieselManor. Comes with the correct length bolts. The rear diff oil cost more than the cover...

Stay away from chrome covers they do not disapate heat very well. I went with finned aluminum that exhanges heat very well and a lil extra oil in there doesnt hurt either. Redline oil should be just fine as long as you make sure you have an open rear end and make sure you dont need to put in the additive for a limited slip.

If you want the cover for looks then the new ones are fine. If you want function then I would suggest looking at Mag-Hytec and others. I have M-H diff covers and tranny pan. They have higher fluid capacity and heat transfer ability, magnetic drain plugs and dipsticks, O ring seals, are tapped for temp probes, come with SS Allen head bolts and Allen wrenches to install them. Yes they do cost more, but I've never seen my tranny temp over 145*F with it.

i have the new ford cover on my sd and i love it. i did'nt want the mag hytec because of a the price and b i don't see why you need the extra capacity. i tow constantly all summer long. i never had a problem with the steel cover but the finned aluminum cover definatley cools substantially better for alot less than the mag hytec.
