testing the tp sensor
I have a 86 f-150 5.0 302(FI). Im trying to get some help troubleshooting the Throttle Position Sensor. My truck has 3 wires in the plug: Black/White wire, orange/white wire, and a solid green wire. I have an manual on the truck but im not fully understanding whats suppose to be right. When the sensor is PLUGGED up all 3 wires get the same voltage(5 volts or close to it). When UNPLUGGED the green wire gets little or no voltage, black/white wire gets five volts, orange/white wire get 5 volts. Ok so i tested with volt meter while sensor is plugged up from orange/white wire to Black/white wire like the manual said and im not seeing this one volt like it says. I tryed testing all three wires in different orders while moving the throttle, and the voltage changes very little(It dosent move a whole volt up or down). I check the ohms on each sensor and they are within specs of the manual so...i assume the sensor's are good? I have an old sensor and a new one, and both do the same thing. I figured that im just not doing this right? What made me check it in the first place was i got a low voltage and a high voltage code from the computer. any ideas? or maybe Precedure of doing this the right way?
