I finally installed my boost and egt gauges today. I'm surprised at how fast my turbo spools push the go pedal 5psi push it harder 7psi and its almost instant. The most I've seen is 7psi so I'm woundering if thats where my waste gate is set at since it builds it real fast if you mash it to 3/4 throtle or more while going down the road or from a stop. Or is this just fords wounderfuly engineered down pipe? would like to see double digets think 12 psi wouldn't hurt anything so whats the best way to get there?
7 is about the factory setting, 10 is all you may get with that squish pipe. I did a 3 inch downpipe for one of our guys at work, just had one bent and welded the ford turbo flange to it and it went up 2 lbs. Yes the ats housing upgrade is nice but I think it is too expensive for the gain.
The factory wastegate rod is threaded, but the threads are staked.
You really shouldn't turn it in as it is. What you really need to do is unthread the end (grip the rod with pliers or vise grips), then tap it out with a 1/4-28 tap, and reinstall, then it'll be easier to adjust.
The instructions with the ATS upgrade kit instruct you to do that, and it's a good idea.
Thanks ghunt. How do you like you're ATS Upgrade any how? Worth the money?
Also this is kinda but we have pretty much the same truck except for trans and same trim level did yours come with cup holders? mine didn't second vehicl i bought with out them And I don't relise till I go threw a drive threw and have nowhere to put my drink . Fixed it with a roll of duct tape I had layed on the trans tunle.
Honestly, I don't have the truck done yet, but for all the work it's been I sure hope it's worth it. I've just run into all kinds of little problems, not necessarily related to the upgrade kit. If anyone ever undertakes this project, I can definitely tell you what you should and should not do.
And yes, my truck does have cup holders, it's a bench and they're attached to the front of the seat.
It's the first Ford vehicle I've owned out of four (Mustang, Thunderbird and Tempo) that actually had cup holder (the Tempo has a cup holder, but it's in front of the shifter and under the dash and it's useless)
I should change my sig, as I got a build sheet from ford, and it turns out my truck is NOT an XLT, but rather an XL with all kinds of options (which makes sense now as to why it has power windows and power locks, but manual mirrors)
