well today i find that i have no heat when engine is not under load. Brand new rad, therm, heater core, flushed and back flushed motor and hoses and replaced coolant. I am completely out of ideas and i now have a knock im the front end somewhere. Grrrr, this truck is pissing me off!
I can`t say as I blame you, this is a major bummer.
Where was the work done and was the cooling system properly flushed?
Does the engine heat come up at all? When there is heat is it real warm or just so so?
I`ve had new but incorrectly functioning thermostats, also check to make sure all the air flaps are working properly.
With no heat at an idle it sounds like something is a miss with NO heat, by now you should have good heat.
i have great engine heat (normal) and as long as im driving i have heat, as soon as i stop and idle the heat goes away to barely warm but when i get back up to speed again i got good heat again. I dont think its a therm as my engine heat would spike up and it doesnt.
If you`re getting good heat driving and not at an idle then there`s possibly an air lock.... I`m not sure, just a thought and hopefully it`s a small minor problem. Have you contacted the shop where the work was done for their ideas on this?
I think if you`re getting heat it must be close to a fix now other than no heat at an idle problem.
Possibly pm Paul/Paso1 for his ideas on it, previously he was a pretty savvy technician.....
I think I may know the problem Chris. On my 89 it did something somewhat similiar. For mine it was the blend door had some stuff in the way of it opening and closing so it wouldnt work quite right.
Quick rundown of how to do it if you feel like checking it out.
Take off glove compartment door. Theres a black panel behind there. Take that cover/panel off, and the blend door is right there. You can move the selector to move the blend door and just open it up and see if theres something there. This is a fairly common problem with these trucks and alot more details can be found by doing a search on it.
quite often the most frustrating things are something simple. is your fan motor weak maybe?? i know i get more heat in the screw when i'm driving, but i take it as normal cause every rig i've had was like that. perhaps your alternator is weak??
Oohoohooh I got another I hate SBF story my 93 didn't start today dispite being plugged in for 10+ hours. But my roomates Chevy Colbalt and my 1958 International started dispite NOT being plugged in at all.
sorry fellas... but i'm siding with the failing block heater too. my 4.6 sat for 6 hours on friday without being plugged in and she started right up. my old 300 would fire up in the worst weather without ever being plugged in!!
Yeah good question well Ryan quite the comparison there you got a 5.8l compared to a little 2.2l and a cobalt is like brand new it should start right away and you got lots of kms as well its good to run lighter oils and have a strong battery
Wow Chris your truck sound like a nightmare unfortunatly
