Fixing Steering Box Leak
Anyone fixed a leaking steering box? I believe mine is leaking from the bottom--running down the pitman arm.
Please direct this if there's a good writeup or thread that addresses this already. I searched to no avail. Thanks.

Rockauto.com sells a kit, thats the pitman shift seal. I have to change mine also. That seal is hard to get but like 4 bucks. I dont see it being that hard. Remove box from truck, take the top off the box where you adjust it, and pull the shaft out and then remove the seal. Put new one in.

they can be repaired with out removal-pull pitman arm remove retaining clip-crank motor turn steering wheel and it pops the old seal out-or so I've been told-haven't tried it for my self yet-it seems easy -I know you can't get it out any other way unless you remove it-well I couldn't any way

I did the steering box seal in my `87 F250. Not a big job. You do not have to remove the steering box. Remove the pitman arm, remove the snap ring (circlip), pry out the old seals and washers (taking note of the order each one comes out) and install new in reverse order. The whole job takes about 30min. if you are lucky in getting the pitman arm off easy.
