Hey guys, I am wondering what a "6637" is. I am not a novice to the PowerStroke but am still very new to the mods stuff.

Does the grease lightining leave a white powder on the aluminum parts? I have used a number of engine cleaners on other vehicles and had bad luck with them reacting with aluminum and leaving white powder and making the parts look bad. But I have never used the GL stuff. Oven cleaner is also something that might be worth trying. Wonder if its hard on painted surfaces.
BTW I agree about the smell of simple green. the new formulation isn't as good as the old and smell is bad. Old stuff smelled good I thought.
I guess I either got some of the old SG or am just wierd (I'm not asking anyone's opinion on that point, either), because I thought the SG smelled OK to me. There were a couple of places that required repeat treatments, but I believe that once you get everything clean and keep up the regimen, it's not as hard on subsequent cleanings because everything is already cleaner than it was the first time around... unless you either wait too long between cleanings or have some monster leaks accumulating gunk where it shouldn't.
I'm curious about the question about the GL leaving white residue... never heard of that product and am willing to give it a shot, but not if there is a residue problem. Besides, the SG did fine on my engine, after all.
i haven't had any problems with the greased lightening. i don't allow it to dry, before i rinse. since i used some wheel cleaner on my rims once and it dried before i could rinse off, i don't allow any spray on cleaner to dry. i'm not sure who made the oven cleaner (it had papa john's label on it, but clearly PJ's didn't make it) but that stuff was awesome. on our oven, you could spray on the outside of a HOT oven , and the grease would run off. i had an oil leak that i never found on that land rover, and unfortunatly i made it worse by cleaning the engine. the caked on gunk must have been sealing it up. but man did that stuff work great.
If you end up using dressings make 100% sure it doesn't have any silicone or silicone derivatives. These put a cheap shine on stuff but attract dust like something crazy. Be careful with oven cleaner...soime of those are too strong and will etch the clear coat...
For a dressing, aerospace 303 is probably the best I've found...also works great at dressing the undercarraige...
Most should not. The Teflon coating shoould dry completely and be non oily like silicone laden products... Try and find a water based dressing, those seem to collect dirt the least...

Thanks! I'm goin to need a lot of cleaner, hasnt been cleaned since it left the showroom!
On a related topic- assuming my truck has never been washed under the hood, how much crud would be considered normal? I have quite a caking of crud around the IC boots at the cooler and around the fuel filter housing. Just wondering if I should be checking for leaks somewhere.
