This is about my buddie's girlfriend's truck. She has a 1996 7.3 with 112K. It will start up and run. It drives and will get to like second gear and bog down and die. Its got no power when its running and has lots of blue smoke. After that it has a hardtime starting after. She brought it to ford and they think its the torque converter locking up.

what do you guys think?

I highly doubt it. Check oil level, fuel filter and air filter to start with. Check fuel pressure as well.

sounds like maybe the lift pump?

 

The easiest thing to check would be the Oil level as TJ mentioned ....

Checking fuel pressure & filter would be a good place to look next...
