Sync = Onstar ?

Sync = Onstar ?
Does the Ford Sync system equal the GM Onstar system?
If not will Ford provide a service similar to the Onstar program.
Does anyone feel that a similar service is needed, not to compete with GM
,but just provide a service that maybe useful to the enduser.
I am sure Microsoft can upgrade the Sync system with no problems if Ford does decide to upgrade to a satellite based program.

My wife thinks "On Star" is the beginning of "Big Brother"......she said she'd never own a vehicle that knows your where abouts at all times.
Of course, I hope she never finds out about the tech in the new cell phones.

It is no where near what onstar is. I have been wondering for years why Ford has not come up with their own onstar program though.
Sync is really just a voice activated bluetooth system for your car and its stereo. Maybe in the future they will evolve it into a diagnostic and telephone system like onstar but for now it isn't.

For the OnStar users. GM has dropped support for the first gen OnStar. Those vehicles either are or soon will be OffStar.

That is cause of the gov't requirement to move to digital from analog signals on all wireless and cable devices.

Like said above I am think it has some of the diagnostic features like OnStar. It also calls 911 when you get involved in a crash that deploys the airbags(I'm pretty Sure). It does not have the navigation feature like OnStar but if you have a Navigation system I don't know why you would need it.

selling point to me with onstar, 24/7 road side advantage. they will call the tow truck and give him precise directions to the person. and they can unlock your door for ya, if ya locked your keys inside
