I have some questions about fi on my 400. I am just getting ready to put my motor all together and get it into my truck. I am looking at just putting a q-jet and a dual plane manifold on it to get it running for now. As I am slowly collecting parts for my fi conversion. I noticed on some of the members set-ups they used a 351c manifold. Is this correct? I am looking at TMI's adaptor plates for either the 351c or the 351w manifolds. I was told that they can have the adaptors drilled for injectors on the 351c and he even sent a picture to me. But my problem is that I am unsure if I could just put something into the hoes until I got the injectors and fuel rail made for the fi and still be abel to have my motor run. Also I was thinking that I could go with a 351w adaptors and just use a factory style manifold. I guess I am looking for opinions on my build either way I was going to buy a dual plane manifold just to get it running and then just switch manfolds for the fi. I just don't want to spend to much money on a decent set-up just to switch it over in a few months.
Don't use a 351W EFI manifold, they don't flow very good. Use a 351C-2V intake with the TMI adapter plates. You can plug the holes with used 5.0 injectors, and run a carb. Then when you are ready to go to EFI, just swap the injectors, and install the TB and computor etc.
BTW, doesn't the Q-jet use a spread bore manifold? You will need a square bore manifold to mount a TB.
So your saying that I should go ahead and install a single plane manifold instead of a dual plane. This will probably hurt my lower end, you think?
Also I have a carb adaptor to get this q-jet to bolt up correctly.

The Dual Plane Manifold wil help the low RPM power with a carb, but a single plane is better with EFI. I think that you can use a dual plane successfully with EFI if you use the adapter plates.
