If you want an electric fan, there are tons of them on ebay, and the prices have come way down. They are actually cheaper than the clutch. You just need to decide what temps you want it to operate at and buy the thermostat accordingly. You would probably have to fab up some brackets to mount it, but that would be simple enough.
i have thought about this..but i plan to tow this summer and 500 to 1000 foot climbs are not un common around here..didnt know if the electric fan could keep up...
just got done taking the old one out..cant get a new one till tuesday..hope this will work till then..getting cleaned up so i can take her for a ride..there is a lot of fan wobble..i am afraid she would come apart before tuesday and take out the rad or put a hole though the hood....got my fingers crossed Kris is right...i need my truck to go to work....

If you have Checker or Advance, they'll match anyone's online price. Rock Auto Parts sells the stock Motorcraft #YB559 for $203.79 and that'll save you $100.
Still a lot of $$$ in my opinion for a damn fan clutch, but every penny helps, especially this time of year.
Bummer! The Napa's here in Colorado only charge $213. Are they more there?
There's always mail order, as a lot of places ship free for orders over $50.
But, if you have a problem with the part, it's nice to be able to deal locally.

im going to check into it when i get back..napa want 250...but cant get it till tuesday..thanks Auastin....
No sweat. I'm headed out to the garage to do glow plugs, or UVC harness. I guess I'll find out once I pull the cover. I hope it's just the glow plugs, but it's odd that the #8 and #7 are the only ones that are bad. I have a funny feeling that since the rear ones on each bank are testing bad it's probably the harness or the wire. I guess there's only one way to find out.
took my truck on back road for about 20 miles..went though town in slow traffic where napa is and the stock gauge never got to the half way mark..i think ill be ok till tuesday..stopped into napa to pay for the clutch..a friend of mine was working. i got it for $197..
I actually towed a 4500# trailer in 50* weather in traffic without a fan. I was uneasy, but yes it stayed cool enough to not over heat. I think in the winter when it's 40* or less there all the time you should have NO worry towing much especially if it's in the negatives. I planned on putting mine back in the spring.
went good Kris thanks.... it is 40* out there right now and it didnt even come up to the half mark.. im not pulling any thing in the next few day's going to work its 20 mile of interstate and 10 miles back road over the mountians to my house so im sure ill be ok..i cant for see spring any time soon..there saying a foot of snow in the next couple of days..
Austin..good luck on your fix..hope its simple...

On the note of fans, does anyone elses fan have cracks in the blades? I am going to replace both the clutch and fan in mine before this spring gets here.
I did check mine out and did not find any..a big truck I drove a couple years ago the fan had stress cracks in it..I told the boss about it..a month later that fan came apart and went though the rad and hood..I know the fan is bigger and works hard on them rigs..but I believe the damage could still be the same..IMO if you see cracks.. get it fixed..
