i tryed the be nice thing even give him an 85 f250 460 4sp that we started to restore so he'd have it when he got his licence, then when the report cards come out i loaded it up and we took it to the crusher. it was a sad moment for me cuzz i realy wanted him to have it. ive talked with him alone out fishing and he says he wants to stay outa trubble. now at $1300 a year to send him to a private church school im starting to think ive wasted my money. then the other 2 are doing awsome there the oldest went from needing LD classes to stayin with his class no more LD junk so i know the others 1300 a piece isnt waisted cuzz they acualy learnin somthin. i think i scared my 11 yearold tho we went to town and i stoped by my buddy that works as a city cop we showed the kid the jail and told him if ya dont straiten up youll winde up here cuzz thats were theifs and bums go and with no diploma he'll end up one or the other

have you seen a doctor?? he may have a problem you do not know about. ADD (attention deficit disorder) is something that has a name now. back in the day, ADD kids were called "stupid", and "lazy", but it is now known as an illness that can be cured with drugs.

i know. i was called "stupid", and "lazy" for 7 1/2 years in school, from 5th grade to 12th grade when i quit going to school cause i just couldn't get it.
then my kids were called the same thing, and i started to think it was something else after what i had gone through as a kid, and knew they were as smart as i was, but could not prove it in school.

so give him the benefit of doubt, and have him checked out by doctors.

Make a sign saying why he isn't in school and make him stand in front of the house for a little while

total cop out, this day in age it shows that add and adhd have been used to label kids and for parents to skirt the responsibility. It has also been shown that too many kids have been miss diagnosed in the past years. many school systems aren't even using the same testing methods as they used in the past due to the recent findings that the test results were too inconsistent.

I agree. There are far too many kids being misdiagnosed as ADD/ADHD. This is a noteable example of one such person:

http://colinburch.blogspot.com/2008/...adhd-uses.html

neurofeedback is fairly new medicine, but it seems to work for this guy. I have no idea how expensive it might be but...

Point taken, I am in a battle now with a school system and in a similar fight so it's a sore subject. Guess it just caught me wrong.

Not that this kid is that bad. I think the bored with school is an excellent idea. I have a kid that is now 24 and when he was in school they tried the ADD crap and with the pills all he wanted to do was just sit there in a daze. That lasted a couple months and I quit giving him the pills. Now everything is a-ok. Still has a temper but who don't. My personal opinion on the ADD is it is just a cop-out, lazy parenting. Take the time and the patience to understand your child, counsler is another option.

I believe in spanking 100%, but, by 11 YOA I don't think it will do any good at this point unless he has done something very wrong (smashed another kid's head into a wall), mouthed off at his mother, or something evil (killed a dog, spit into food, etc.).

This is a school problem (exactly why was he suspended?), so I would approach it at this point as in what I am doing wrong or what I could do different.

First off, hormones. The kid might need some sleep. 8-10 hours a night in bed, sleeping or not. No radio expect maybe to fall asleep, shuts off after an hour.

Second, hard play outside with friends or Dad. Boys will be boys if they do not expend the energy. Martial arts class with a instructor that will work him out and build self-esteem at the same time.

Third, talk at supper with no TV on. 1 hour meal. School, government, cars, etc. My kids fight to be first to tell me about their day.

Fourth, Cut back on the TV. No more then 1 hour of TV or video games. Bad grades = none during the weekday. Allow weekend viewing together.

Fifth, Check the homework every day, talk to the teachers once a day or e-mail them to keep up on if he is bringing it home or to nip problems in the bud. Give the school your cell phone number.

At my kids' school, the parents are allowed to attend classes with their kids whenever they want. So ...

When my 1st grader misbehaved (we worked this out beforehand), his teacher called me on her cell phone and put him on the phone. I told him in no uncertain terms, if I had to leave work to pick him up, I was coming to school every day of the week and he would not be happy with his "daddy" following him around in front of all the other kids.

OK guys get off of the "he is not stimulated in class" as I have kids in my class that have diarrhea of the mouth. They simply cannot shut up and it is due to attention span. They are used to dealing with something for 11- 15 minutes at a time. I blame it on TV, Internet and text messaging. Sometimes it is true that they can be board from time to time, but not at a constant rate.

Talk to the teacher to find out what is triggering it. Communication is a big thing with me in my classes. If I am having trouble with a kid, I want the parents to know and understand this when I can see there is a problem. If this a problem that has no triggers, you may want to get him tested by the school to see if there are any underlying problems.

Also for the people with their opinion of ADD/ADHA I used to think the same thing until my daughter was diagnosised with it. Myself and my wife waited two years to put her on meds and used every skill in both of our bags and she was not getting any better. With her meds she is doing great. We are very involved in her education and I will take he off the med when she does not need them anymore. I agree that there are people that medicate their child into coma and these are the bad parents as well as the doctors. I need to call her physician every time she needs a refill and I need to give them a report on what she is doing.
