Men i am new to the PSD and run across new things daily. Have ordered manuals but haven't recieved yet. Question today is exactly how does this work and when do you use it. The truck is a 2003 lariet 4 door with 88000 miles. I've had it two weeks but only driven a couple hundred miles, but so far i haven't found any problems and realy like the truck.
Thnks for all the help, and there will probaly be more questions.
Watch your tranny temp. i would recommend a real tranny temp gauge, not the one that Ford puts in the dash, it's really just barely above an idiot light. If it reads hot it's already too late.
With real set of gauges, at least a pyrometer and trans temp, you will get a good feel for how hard your truck is working. If the trans has to make a lot of shifts, usually the torque converter has to slip alot and this causes excess heat. If that is happening is when you need to go to tow haul mode. In order to really monitor this, you need a real trans temp guage installed. Check with Diesel Manor(http://www.dieselmanor.com/) or one of the other sponsors. They have good deals on gauge packages.
If you are towing just a couple thousand pounds then you don't really need tow/haul unless you are going down a steep grade. I use it going down a steep grade even empty. I use it everytime I tow but I am towing at least 5k and most the time around 10k.
