minimum amps to start

What is the minimum cranking amps needed to start my 85 F250-v8/460?
Only need to start it a couple times...

Depends on the temperature and tune of the engine. If I were to take a wild guess, I would say 100-150 amps.

According to my '83 Specifications Book it's 150 to 180 A. under normal load. If you're buying a battery I suggest getting one with high cold cranking Amperes rating.

Basically, i need to know the smallest battery that would start the truck once or twice...

I have no idea of what the smallest battery size you could get by with. I have a 635 cold crank A. in mine and it works fine in cold weather. I've been using Wal-Mart batteries for years and have never had one fail in the warranty period (unlike a couple of Die-Hards and a Delco).
