i was in a hurry so didn't lube the caliper pins. did that a week later. then pads I had installed we recalled, replaced those later. calipers shortly there after. you get good at doing anything if you do it enough time, lol.
luckily, i have never had the covers off. NO serious engine problems- knock on wood!! i did cps, a/c, 2x alternators, replaced ebps sensor and tube. this site makes you check stuff, lol !! that's good!
truck 1, just sold it, 413,000 miles, 2 sets of batteries. never been into engine, only sold it becuase it was a single cab f-350, wanted ext cab or 4 door. truck 2 , f-250, 273,000 miles, replaced batteries and cps once. never been in engine either. It is used as farm truck so in hay season it gets to pull 25,000 lbs regularly. from my experience they last....
Medhvac you were just talking about valve covers and not the whole head, right?
If the head gasket is blown between two cylinders, the compression will be down on both of them, not just one. The pressure will blow back and forth through the gap.
The only thing that went out on my engine so far is CPS. I changed things, but they were not broke. 117,000 miles. Do the maint. and should last a very long time.
I can't believe nothing else went bad on me. Knock on wood.
2 alternators
2 water pumps
2 starters
2 transmissions..........Ford should recall this junk 4R100
3 u-joints
1 driveshaft yoke
0 oil drips of anykind
The starters are my own fault as in the winter time I am constantly starting and restarting the truck to stay warm if I happen to be on a job site as an adviser, about all I can do anymore. This truck is beyond a doubt the most reliable vehicle I have owned in my long and many vehicles owned life.
Instead of me posting my experiences with my truck, next time you are driving around, take a look at how many other trucks out there are 7.3 powerstroke powered. Take particular note in how many company fleet trucks are 7.3 powered. They NEED those trucks for their business, can't have them down, and that's why they pick a ford with 7.3.
Kris has a point. I told the wife when I bought this truck, that I am going to drive it until it dies. looks like I won't be getting another truck for a long time. happy/sad ????

I'm in the same boat sort of. I don't want to have to buy another_truck. They are simply getting too expensive to be able to afford to replace every 5 years like we (speaking of the general public) used to do in the past.
$50k for a depreciable item is out of the ball park for me.
