Does anyone have a recommendation for a performance mechanical fuel pump for a 71 429? Tried the Holly 12-460-11 and it won't work because of the difference in the shape of the actuator arm between the Holley and stock.
Why are you curious to know the performance of a stock pump? I think they pump like 4- 5 psi, I'm not sure on the gallons per minute. Do you have a hi-po motor that requires alot higher pressure or more fuel? If it doesn't, a stock pump should be fine.

Oh, ok. If I were you, I'd call the Holley tech lines and see what the said. It doesn't make sense that their Fuel pump wouldn't work. Worst comes to worst, put a block off plate where the mechanical pump is and just run an in-line electric pump.

Update and thanks to all who helped. Went with a Edlebrock pump. Had to use their conversion kit to switch from a side feed to a bottom feed, but the arm on their fuel pump is higher and allows more movement.
Holley has been great though. Called me at home and are really interested in solving the problem. I am sending them both their pump and my old stock pump to compare. Can't say enough about their service.
CARTER also makes a bolt up after market pump, using one right now on my big block 7 p.s.i. all the time. just bolt it up with no problem, and just redid my fuel line. very nice pump. ....
what's up, the pump is a bottom feed. and if your standing in front of your truck looking at the front of the motor, the fuel lines come in on the drivers side. the number is ( M60882 ) for the carter pump.i bought it from either JEGS or SUMMIT i can't remember. about the only thing you'll have to do is probally run over to your hardware store and buy a fitting to adapt to your current fuel line or new one. i think the base of the pump is rotatable, turn it the way you want. it bolted right up to my set-up and works great. i use the older style power steering pump on my 77 f-150, looks like a small round pump with the dip stick in the back. take it easy. C.J. later....
