it has canted valves , d3ve a2a on the head in between the center exhuast ports and 6 valve cover bolts, the T-stat is in the mani by the dist, what is it?
it is a ford right
you mean like the Windsor, that part is missing, it does not look like a Windsor
its in a 78 F150??
I have the truck all wrapped up right now, I climbed up threw the w/well that is missing to get what info I got now
I'll get a better look tomorrow
I thought the d3ve-a2a head was a 460 only head in 78 f series trucks. But I've been known to be wrong before, and this is probably another one of those times....
the D3VE heads were used on 385 series engines from 73 until the switch to FI.
Canted valves and that casting number should indicate a 429/460 the problem is the 6 VC bolts that 302/351W. But some of the aftermarket 429/460 VCs only used 6 so does this happen to have aftermarket valve covers on it. otherwise it sounds like a 385 series engine.
yes it does have Ford Racing valve covers on it,
and now that I think about it I did not pull the gasket up to see if the head itself had that extra bolt hole to make 7,
see that is what was throwing me off, I only saw 6 on the head itself?
but you are the second one to ask about the valve covers,
now I know why Dennis asked me about that!, thank you,
I will dig a little deeper today,
it is kinda hard to get to right now the way I have the truck stored and wrapped up,
Thanks guys I was really confused here with that missing v/c bolt hole
Yea, Thanks Monsterbaby, the number on the head and canted valves was telling me
429-460, but that dang 6 v/c bolts was telling me 351w?? I was starting to think I had some mutant motor, then I started hoping it was something speacial??!!
I am just happy it is what it is!!! I paid $300 for the whole truck, and it is chock full of great parts. someone started doing a ton of work to then Stopped?? it had brand new 44" super swampers on it but the P/O kept those...Bummer. cant have everything I guess . so I'll be happy with what I got for that price!!!!! the motor alone is worth that!! Thanks for the help...Rick
Some of the after market valve covers use ALL of the bolts but the top center bolt is covered by a plug you have to remove to get the bolt in or out
clint
