1988 2.0L carbed ranger code reader

I'm curious as to whether or not I can pull and read codes from my truck. I have a 1988 2.0L ranger, carbeurated. Does it use a code system, and if so which one?

Also, where would the plug be to access the codes?

Thanks in advance.

I think No.....

There are many cars in Ukraine with old 2.0 Carburated engines. I dont know what carburator have you, look under the hood and tell us, here #1 is Weber. It is #1 carburator on Cologne engines.

To fix old carburators owners look for old mechanics, usually pensioneers, who remember how to take it appart, clean nozzels, tune it up (usually idling fuel:air ration and idling speed are ajustable)....

Many my friends swaped carburators with CFI. Its parts easily bolt on place of carburator, as I remember less then a dozen of sensors and actuators.....
Looking for how to do in English I easily found:
http://www.fordmuscle.com/forums/lat...-carb-efi.html
http://fordfuelinjection.com/
http://www.bronco.com/cms/node/75

It is easier, then I concidered before. And less problem then with carburator. I had carburater car in '90s with Solex carburator made in Scandinavia. Good carburator, runs well, good perfomance, low CO, but had to clean and tune it up every 10K.....

But early CFI had no self diagnostics....

This is about EEC-IV system, he has old carburated engine. EEC-IV is the first system used codes, previous CFI had not self diagnostics....

I just read through it, and it was explaining different tests that could be performed, and it said that on one test that "this test can only be performed on vehicles with Sequential Fuel Injection" which makes me think that this eec-iv system is also used on carbeurated models as well.

Although, I guess it could be talking about a specific kind of fuel injection, different from the normal kind. Do you know for sure Rockledge?

I'm thinking that a 1988 Ranger 2.0L w/carb still has to use some sort of Electronic Engine Control (EEC) system, for emissions reasons.

If an EEC Self-Test Connector (a/k/a "STI terminal") can be located, then I'm betting that trouble codes can be pulled.

Seems like I've seen that plug in there somewhere, along with the single wire one right beside it.

As a matter of fact, I remember it being plugged into a plastic cap mounted on the side, just to protect the contacts, along with the single one...

No reason, CFI is much cheapper, easier to install, bolt on carburator bolt pattern, work fine with stock ignition system, you can use stock vac. ignition timing corrector, using no computer.... but electronic ignition timing correction is better....

You only have to drill and thread some holes in engine for ECT, AIT, MAP, OXY sensor.... Swaping to electonics I used to weld nut in exaust to install oxy sensor.....
VSS is also available.....

Well, I tried pulling some codes yesterday. I followed the instructions to the T, I found the plugs, grounded the small one, turned ignition to on, and waited. Nothing happened. The ce light came on and went off, nothing more.

Then I tried the KoEr test, nothing. Didn't even say how many pistons I had. Didn't change rpms any.

So I'm guessing its got the system, but its disabled for this carbed engine. Or maybe it's running great?! I doubt it, it has no a.i.r. pump, lol... Oh well.
