strange thing happened yesterday. truck has always started in the past. Yesterday it started but was barely running, then stalled. Almost wore out the battery before i finally got it going. there was spark, preasurized fuel at the fuel rail. While i was trying to start it, there was white smoke coming from the exaust and it smelt very rich. Any ideas? 95f150 351 e40d 2wd
White smoke???? If you'd said black smoke, I would have suggested the FPR took a dump on you. White smoke is usually oil of some sort. However, if you cranked on it a while without it starting, and have even a mild leaking valve stem seal, that would make it puff a pretty large cloud when it finally cranked and burned the oil out of the cylinder. Glad it's running, but I HATE problems that go away by themselves. They come back all by themselves too.

I tought white smoked was coolant burning and blueish white smoke was oil
while i was trying to start it, it was stumbling. It almost seemed like it got to much gas when i first cranked it. I rthought the throttle position sensor might of breifly gave a false reading, momentarily flooding the engine. It did have a very rich smell as i was trying to start it..
Yeah im glad it started, but im worried if it will happen again
Umm, could be the FPR dumping too much fuel in the intake. If white, and it dissipates in the air, i.e. disappears, it's steam from coolant. If it's white, or bluish white, it's oil. But, I re-read the post. Said the white vapor was coming out while he was TRYING to start it, not after it cranked. Very possible that was fuel vapor from a very flooded engine. Good thing no one was smoking around there.
