This is old information so i can't vouch for it still being true...but...back in 1990, right after cummins showed up in Dodge trucks(we've owned several), Ford Motor Company purchased a LARGE chunk of Cummins stock which entitled them to placing a voting member on the Cummins board of directors. There were options for expansion of their ownership but I don't know if it followed through and I don't know if they still own the stock. Either way, cummins had a contract with Dodge and still does. Don't look for a cummins engine in a Ford...I don't think that will happen. But that is why people still say that "Ford owns Cummins".
I'm leaning towards to a Volvo / Powerstroke .......
Don't think you will ever see that one, either. Ford does own Volvo cars, but that it completely separate from the rest of Volvo, who makes trucks, diesel engines, marine engines, and construction equipment.
it will be expensive to come up with there own big diesel, Detroit diesel spent over $1 BILLION just to re-design there engine from the top down. I think FORD would be better to use the rights an existing engine company. Look at the problems with engine manufacturers that have been building engines for yrs...could be a long road a hoe.
just my two cents.
