"and he did say that ford owns the rights to the cummins engine"

Ford barely owns Ford.

In the earlier years of the Dodge Cummins motors, Ford owned the patten for the Turbo system used in those motors. Turbos used in light duty diesel pickups were relatively new and Ford used Dodge as a 'guinea pig'. And then the race was ON!!

I just read in Diesel World that the Ford SD diesel motors will be changed and increased in size in 2009. I will get the exaxct quote and post it tomorrow, unless someone beats me to it!! I keep hearing these rumors? While I think this will be a great thing, it will suck for the few that bought a 6.4 motor in a Super Duty. To have such a short run on a motor? Man wouldn't a Cummins 6.7 with an Allison 1000 tranny be sweet!

From what I've read, and I can't recall the website, is that Ford did at one time own part of cummins, in the early 90's, but cummins has since bought those shares back.

If you buy F-650 and up then you can get Cummins or Cat. engine in it. Plus different tranny. Plus air brake system in them.

There will be 2 new V-8 diesels, a 4.4L for the F-150 and Expedition, and a 6.7L for the Super Duty. They are both supposedly designed by Peugeot. Don't hold your breath waiting for a Cat in a Ford pickup. It ain't happening!

Uh yeah. Thats false. The 4BT/6BT turbo engines were around a good 4-5 years, before Dodge used them, and the 4BT/6BT turbo system is not any different from any other turbo setup, so there is nothing to hold a patent on.

Ok did a litlle internet research here: So far this is what I have found:

The Scorpion is testing in at :
400 HP @ 3500 rpm. 700 ft lbs @ 1600 rpm

It is using the same Peugot / Ford technology the new 4.4l V8 Diesel will be using.

Somthing seems odd in that speculation, why would they pour all the RD into an engine that only has a year or so production. Every change so far has been do to additional required emissions. Than theres the other side, the current 6.4 is only 2008 compliant, it would make since to make a change in late 2009 if the 6.4 does not meet the 2010 requirements. On the flip i have read that the 6.4 can meet the 2010 emissions with only minor changes not requiring the use of urea injection.

IMO, if they were smart they would run there contract out with international i doubt they realy have a choice, finish the the new motor in 09 and spend the rest of the time testing it making sure theres no issue upon release. Personaly i think the 6.4 has had a good lanuch quality wise aside from milage, alot of the issues so far were caused by subcontractors supplying parts to ford and international and how do you stop that, you cant.
