Well I didnt know what BSEG was either but Ill be wearing one in a few weeks when I go to pick up my new 05 Crew cab long bed v-10 f350. Just bought it a few days ago on autotrader.com. I can't wait. Oh by the way it has the 4.10 gears and 18" rubber.
Well I've done some more thinking and I am leaning toward another diesel. I put 60-75K a year on my trucks with 10-15%towing and I can't accept 10-12mpg empty. Now all I have to do is decide on the make and model. I have a Chevy 2500 HD, Duramax, 2wd,cc for a rental and I am getting 17.45mpg with a 1500 lb load in the bed that is a 4X4X4ft dry ice box. Pretty damn impressive!
That's true! 4x2's usually get better mpg's than 4x4's. Whatever you decide...hope it works out for you.
I too got rid of a 7.3 and went to a V10 and have been very hapy. I can't wipe the BSEG off my face! Every time I drive it I tell my wife how much I love the truck. After doing a lot of searching on this forum I decided to make the switch. It also helped that I had to do some work on the 7.3L, I thought I was paying to work on a boat (man diesels are expensive to fix!) Smooth, quite, doesn't stink me out when I'm sitting still. The gas milege isn't great but it's an 05 F350, crew cab, long bed with 35" tires on it, like my buddy says...you ain't driving a Hyundai.
For the 6.0 liter question, my same buddy has an 01 GMC 2500 with the 6.0L. He gets the same milage I do with the V10 but the V10 has a little more horsepower and a lot more torque. He also has 35" tires on his but his is an extra cab short bed so it's a lot lighter than my truck so I would think that if you compared two trucks of equal weight I would think the V10 would get better milege. It makes him mad that he had to pay to have a lift installed so he could get 35's under his truck and you can fit them under Ford's stock. I wouldn't have put 35's on the truck but I bought it used and it already had them on there. When they wear out I may downsize to get a little more power and a little better milege.
Congrats, I bet you'll be as happy with your truck as I am with mine.
Ok the 5th wheel hitch is in the 05 now...I have some adjusting to do as the 05 model sits lower than my 99....I will hook it up to 5th wheel (10k lbs) in a few days and give this mighty V10 a work out.....I also have a few more preventive maint items to complete and it will be good to go....
