I have a 2001 F150 XLT 7700 5.4L. I am looking to put some driving lights (6 inch Hella 55w) behind the grill. I also want to put a billet grill on, either bolt on or replacement. Questions I have for those that have done this:
1. How bright are the driving lights when they have to come through both the honeycomb and the bolt on billet grill?
2. If I go with the replacement grill rather than a bolt on. With an 01 does the honeycomb grill "pop" out or do you have to cut it out?
3. How difficult is it to wire the lights in?
4. Can you just wire the driving light into the existing fogs as a shortcut.
i got some kc daylighters just shipped and am about to tackle that same project, i started looking at my truck and looks like i have to remove alot of the front end plastic crap under the hood to get to the area, my buddy did his and them lights are bright, i think they are illegal actually, but thats gonna be someone elses problem not mine......
Where did you get your grill from? I haven't purchsed mine yet, still deciding... I want to get it done but don't feel like working outside in subzero temps!
my grill is stock, its the honeycomb one, im thinkin of trimming it for the lights, but not really sure how that would look? well lucky for me we have had a mild winter here so ive been putzing in the garage with a space heater, so is it day or night in ak?
anyone with any pictures of this done? Mounting? I'm thinking about doing this too.
I have a billet grill that I had to cut out the old honeycomb part and mount the billet one with new brackets. It was actually pretty ease to do...
02' Screw, I just used a dremal with a cut off wheel and a sanding bit to smooth up the cuts. The hardest part is taking off the existing grill/trim...I think I spent about 2hrs installing the new grill. The instructions that came with my grill were pretty good and had pictures...
This sound interesting> I was just looking at my truck today thinking I would like to put some fog/driving lights on it but did not know were to mount them. I will have to keep an eye on this thread.
As you can see the lights cut through the honeycomb grill with very little interference. Not very happy with the look on my front end so I removed the deflector and added clear fogs for the lower bumper....summertime will be a black paint job for the lower bumper as well.
Here is the bracket i fabrictated to install my 7" IPF lights......keeps them stable.
