cam/smog question?

I was going to put a comp cam 252 grind in my 400 I'm putting together. it needs to pass smog though. the guy I have doing the machine work has doubts I can get it to pass with that cam. it's a pretty small cam I thought. I was hoping I could slip it past the smog rep. what do you all think??

What year truck or car? Standards are pretty wide, and older stuff can run pretty dirty compared to new stuff. The smog man won't know about the cam unless you tell him. Got good cats?

it's an 80 van. and i will be putting new cats on it. i've heard that new ones help it pass easier. i think i stand a chance of getting it to pass with a good tune.
