Transmission Replacement

Ok, I've had enough of not being able to fix the leaks in my C4 and the drive shaft has been hopping and it's been balanced twice so, I'm gonna replace the transmission and install a new drive shaft. I didn't have the money to do this when I installed my new 302 last spring. Now the issue is this: I'm not pulling the engine when I pull the tranny, is there anything I really need to look out for? I built a removable crossmember when it first went together, so I won't have to pull the engine to get it out.
I figure it should be easy, pull the drive shaft, remove the shift and throttle linkage, unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel, then unbolt the bell housing from the back of the motor and out she goes, right? Other than fluid, did I miss anything?

Doug, Your engine will probably drop=down in the back ...it May hit the firewall, possiably damaging the wall or some other components in the area..I would recommend dropping the rear of trans..slightly..then blocking/shimming engine in place.before removal..just in case,
What kind if 'hopping ' is your driveshaft doing?? any vibration onaccell/decell?
Pinion angle OK? Good Luck!!

tranny removal

Do you have a vaccum line to disconnect? Buy four plugs for tranny fluid lines. I would disconnect drive shaft at the first connection and tape the tailshaft to the tranny. If you drain tranny fluid, no problem with leaks. Place floor jack under engine to hold up the engine rear. Place another floor jack under tranny. Tranny is awkward to handle and if you are by yourself it's easier to move and detach or reattach tranny.Any tranny to engine angle makes starting bolts difficult. Have someone check on you as you work as things happen and you don't want trapped under the truck. It may take longer but it's easier and safer to work on, if you pull the engine/tranny together. Have a great day, chuck

You didn't mention cooler lines. Best to completely remove them, they always get in the way. Also remove the dipstick & tube.

I didn't think about blocking up the rear of the engine. Good point.
As far as the hop in the drive shaft, it's a little bent. I had someone "straighten and balance" it, but they didn't do such a great job.
