Question Engine and tranny question on 59 f100

hey fellas and gals to be politically correct, I dont mean to bother with what seems to be the same questions. But I pick up my truck in a week and want to get as much info before i get to tearin her apart. I am pretty sure it's a 292 in it, and i have gotten all the links from you all and they are very helpful but there are still some items i havnt quite found yet or info for that matter. In the motor the truck has in it, I only see the harmonic balancer and the pully on the generator, since she has no fan on her i guess the other pully is on the fan. (correct me if I am wrong) . So i want to know if there are kits to swap out the generator and place a modern alternator on it, also since i am missing a steering column if there is a way to adapt power steering or if it's worth doing so? Are ther more compnents to adding power steering than the column and the steering box and pump? As for the tranny I know it is a stock tranny but have no idea on the specs, are there any other transmissions that can be put on the 292 yblock? is there performance trannies out there for it? and where can i find the drive shaft and linkage at? once again i apologize if these questions seem redundant, i have spent the past 2 days researching and have been breakin my head over this

heres a pic of the engine tell me if you see potential?

http://www.transmissionadapters.com/ford_y_block.htm AOD (or other) to Y block adapter. Flaming River or some other aftermarket steering column could work, and The Toyota PS box swap is a good one, just not sure of compatibility with your ...again, I say....newer, truck.

Try this link for changing to an alternator-the best upgrade I've done on my truck: http://www.ranchwagon.com/tech/alt/alt.htm.You can add power steering without changing the steering column,by using a stock, after market ram assist style set-up,sold by several vendors.Pricey,though.You'd need to provide your own pump, and either add on a second shiv to the existing dampner,or find a two-shiv dampner. The stock Eaton pumps are on EBay all the time, the two-shiv dampners are harder to find. Thumbs up

Lots of potential in that 59. Clean up that engine a little, fire it up and see what ya got! I bet you will be surprised at how well that 292 performs. As to altenater it,s an easy upgrade- just need the alt. a regulator and probably a alt. gauge. but the gen.is just as good and will provide good sevice. As to the steering- Toyota is the obvious choice and there are many threads right here on fte on the install-just do a search. As to trannys and drive lines start with what ya got and go from there, if you are not happy then you can get into upgrades in transmisions and diffs. Local bone yard or swap meets are going to be the best place to start looking for that driveline. Make sure you have some measurements when you start poking around for parts. Get started and have some fun with that '59' Mark

F/M-100's came standard w/ what FoMoCo called a Manual, Light Duty 3-speed w/ or w/o Special Order O.D.
They also could be Special Ordered w/ the Optional Manual, Heavy Duty 3 or 4-speed w/ or w/o O.D. or the Single Range 3-Speed or Dual Range 3-speed Ford/Merc-O-Matic.

1st RP,,, I am also working on an Orphan (58 Styleside) as they are better known. The Engine casting number is on the driver side above the oil filter, it more than likely have a ford-a-matic 2 speed in it. I will probably be putting a c4 in mine. If you are having to replace the steering, the Toyota (79-84 4x40 might be the way to go. I know it works in the 48-56, just not sure about our years. I do have a few basic pics in my gallery. Keep in touch about your build and progerss.
