For years people have told me that it didn't get cold enough to kill bugs, so that is why miquitoes have been so bad these last several years.
Is there anything to that myth? if so does all this snow and long time cold get the ground cold enough to do anything about it?
I would happily deal with a month or two of severe cold to keep the pesky skeeters off of me during the summer.
I may make a difference on some pests, but I don't think it will effect the mosquitos. Places like northern Minnesota and even close to the Artic have lots of them and they get plenty cold.
I think it can make a difference with garden, crop and household pests.
The cold puts um ta sleep. But them there bugmals keep wake in up. That's why I like to camp when it's cool enough that them guys go to sleep before I pull into camp or never wake up in the first place. Spend a night or three with them things buzzin your ear and you'll knows what I mean.
I've shared my tent many a night with them bugs. But all of those nights but a very few it was cold enough that the bugs were sleepin afore I even had my second glass of sippin whiskey at the camp fire.
