evil bay

last night i was gonna put my 49 on e-vil bay and couldnt do it . not because i'm having second thought's but that place goes entirely against what i beleive . i want smiley to go to a new home where someone will love him but i do not beleive in being greedy when it comes to selling . if i put him on there and set a reserve and the auction goes beyond what i wanted i feel that i'd be scr-wing somebody and i can't do that . geez i hate having a conscience . so i geuss we'll stick with the classifieds here and a couple of others i know of . ol' bessie responded to the idea too as i was talking to myself while i was letting the kids out to do their thing and decided to start her and let her run , she fouled a couple of plugs on me so i know it's not a good thing !.oh and yes my family thinks im nuts cause i always come out on the wrong end on things when buying and selling .they'd gouge ya in a heartbeat !!

Kevin, couldn't you put it on with only a "Buy it Now" price? I'm not an expert on e-bay but I have seen some listed like that. It is not acutally an auction and it either sells or dosen't. Just a suggestion. Oh, and another way is to place your minimum starting bid just a few dollars below your Buy it now price.

Give Norm the price you want out of it. Let him post it and field the calls. Let him keep a commission. If he has the experience dealing on evil pay and he's a friend it should work out for both of you. But first why are you selling your truck.

i'm keeping my 53 , but have come to the conclusion that while i love that ol smiley , i am not gonna have the time or money to do anything with it , and it deserves to have someone who'll care for it to have it and fix it .the things i want to do /need to do to my beater 53 are gonna require my total attention , what time i have , and my wallet . so ...... why you want it ? theres an ad in the classifieds here give ya some idea of what it is . lol . hard sell . lol

I sell on Ebay all the time. The price you get for something when you sell is kinda, in a way, what it is actually worth at that moment in time. Nobody has to bid, if they will pay more than you might expect, than thats what it was worth to them. I also sell for other people and get a %20-30% comission, depending. If you get a good price, ts more parts for your 53!

Kevin,

Here's an idea. List your truck on eBay, get whatever you think is a good price and if you get more donate the extra to a favorite charity. That way you won't feel like you're screwing someone and someone else who needs the money will benefit.

The major thing I stress to people about listing something on eBay is honesty. I value my feedback a lot. If the item has a flaw list it. Don't doll something up to make it look good and hope a bidder doesn't notice it in your ad. Take plenty of pictures, especially of the questionable areas then let the bidder decide what it's worth. When I sell on eBay I include a lot of pictures. I have my own web site so I post thumbnail pictures that link to very large images so the bidder can see exactly what he is bidding on. eBay has galleries that let you do this on their site.

I have never sold anything on eBay that I felt the least bit guilty about. Many of the items I have sold have sold for a lot more than I thought they were worth but I start with a price I believe is fair and let the bidding go from there. The basic rule is, like anything else in life, do unto other like you want done for you.

Hey 55, I am a power seller on feebay. If you need any help at all ,just let me know. I can give you my email or phone number. I'd be glad to answer any questions you might have about listing stuff there. I actually do about 99% of my business on feebay. I am the airbrush guy. Anyway, if that truck brings more, then whoever paid more may take care of it better. Just a thought. I know when I saw my prized shovelhead Harley roll out of my driveway a few weeks ago, I almost cried. But I knew the guy was very excited to own it. And he paid top dollar for her. BTW, the sale of the bike financed my other recent purchase. My old 48 F1.

cool and all others thanx for the advice and offers . i got to get hold of norm and get him over and explain it all to me . kinda of a techtard obviously . i think i'm gonna let the wife take care of the auction and i'll just write the add and answer the questions . i really feel that , even though i've gotten shafted many times , that ya do unto others as you would have them do unto you . plus i really dont need any more bad karma . so away we go !!!! the deal with the beater fell through . it was uglier and rustier , than the 49 and had a wing and trash can muffler .nope dont think so ............

I like craigslist for the fact it's relatively local, and folks can come and look firsthand, talk about the truck, get to know their plans with it, come to an agreement on price, (if not already advertised and agreed upon). Then you both can walk away with a fair shake. My 2 cents.

Havi, I didn't even consider Craigslist. Good idea, sounds like it would fit plan perfectly.

Hey, I offered him 1/2 roll of Life Savers, very little pocket lint, and two old Chevy truck magazines...I thought it was pretty fair, but he turned me down!

I'd say put it on ebay, figure what you would happily sell it for, tack on 10% for the fees, and start it at that price. Then add 20%, and put that as a "buy it now". That way, if yo sell at all, you'll get what you need, after fees, and if yo get a little extra, so much the better.
Or, you can sell them like the Ardun heads...start it at a buck, and a few hours before the auction ends, pull the auction!
