<HR style="COLOR: #666666" SIZE=1> <TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">Hey everyone here is the promlem I am having with a 2001 ford expedition. The engine shuts down then restarts with no problem. It's not hard to start on restart. I did install a new cam sensor from Napa still having the same problem. Was wondering if anyone has used an after market part with bad results, then used a ford part with good results.I have checked fuel psi performed a pull test on all elec con.I should also mention it does have a performance package. At this time I do not know the name of the add on .But the owner has had this add on on the truck for a very long time so I am ruleing out that as a problem.I know that navistar had a shim deal to shim the sensor out thinking the cam gear was getting to close to the sensor and breaking the signal any coment on this, the engine has 100,000 miles on it. I am a Cat tech with Michigan Cat and the 3126 although its a stright 6 works on the same type system so all the stupid stuff I have checked wire con,oil level, pull test. Any help would be great
Sounds like Cam Position Sensor (CPS) has gone. There is a recall for 7.3 pickups, so I assume there would be a recall for Excursion. $20 part that Ford probably charges about $200 for, but recall should make it zero cost.
Problem #1 is you used a NAPA sensor. Seen way to many others suffer the same as you from after market sensors. Check on the recall, I think yours is in it. Sounds like that may be problem.

Yes. I have read this exact scenario several times. This would be the first place I start. You can get the Ford part from the dealer for less than $30, or online at some of our sponsors for around $15. Something else to check. If the truck has a chip, make sure it's not loose and has a good connection.
I would like to thank F350-6 I had a problem with a 7.3 shutting down then restarting with no problem,it was the aftermarket chip the installer used electrical tape to hold it in.Again thank you for the help

--that wouldnt preclude me to get the recall done though!!!

Glad to have been of help. Hang around here and keep reading. There's a wealth of knowledge. The best part is it's all for free.
where'd you guys get a cam sensor for twenty dollars ,mine went out in sept 06 and I paid $ 140 dollars for it at my local dealer .I thought they were raping me so i checked with other dealers in a 100 mile radius and the prices were all about the same.
Havent checked them latlely but price must of dropped or the one I needed was gold plated ,,,LOL.

You should have stayed away from the gold plated model. Actuall Ford came out with a new part (part number ending in B instead of A) the is less than $30 after tax at the dealer. You can get in online for even less money. http://catalog.powerstrokeshop.com/p...catalogid=3660
They're cheap enough now it might be wise to buy a spare to carry in the glove box.
