1984 ranger

I discovered this little "gem" on craigs today. I emailed the Lister and he said that he thought it was EFI. I didn't think Ford started putting EFI on until a few years later. Could it be possible, or does he not know what hes talking about?
Thank you!

84 was the last year for carburetion for the 2.3 engine. 85 and up were EFI. It may depend on on when in 84 the truck was built. The 2.0 engines never went to EFI. jd

The lister said it was a v-6, sorry. I assume that it would be the 2.9? I'm not terribly familiar with the early eighties rangers, sorry.

Unless somebody changed things at some point... it should be a carbureted 2.8L V6. That's what my '84 had that I retired last November.

Be prepared for confusion with the 2.8l carb system! In '84, no engine was factory equipped with EFI, the 2.3l didn't "officially" get it until '86, although it was built the last 6-7 months of '85, and as JD said, the 2.0l never got EFI. The 2.8l was never EFI, and it ran until it was replaced by the 2.9l in '86, so the truck is either a frankenstein, or he doesn't know what he's talking about. Be careful, it sounds to me like the guy is willing to say anything to sell this truck!
