I bought a new (to me) truck, 1994 f150 4x4 ext/cab s/box
when you turn the key it just clicks, dead battery ?... nope ... left it plugged in and a charger on the battery over night still clicks,
Im thinking starter now so I got the old one off ... thought my spares for the 85 I have would fit ... it will bolt up but theres 2 wires on the new truck (big & small one) there's a space for the big wire on the spare starter i have but not for the small wire ?
is there a way I can make it work ?
Very often the starter isn't bad, but the connection (usually a spade connector) on the small wire is corroded where it attaches to the solenoid on the starter.

alright ... more info,.... after getting it off the truck and cleaning it up... it looks new, but still doesnt work lol haha.. kidding
ummm the clicking is not the starter ... it still clicks, however the post going into the solenoid came out and its all burnt around the hole ... and smells bad (burnt)
conclusion .... the starter does not engage because, in fact, there is no power going to the starter !! got it !
theres a Napa close by .. what would it run me there ? ... maybe I could drop off a resume at the same time lol and get a job (hit 2 birds with one stone)
GOOD THINKING QUICKLOOK2!!!
I created a page on my website called "problem solving" starting with this problem
there is also pictures of the starter and a picture of the truck
I see I see well ... what if I buy the solenoid and try it ... if the starter does not work ... I'll buy the new starter and keep the solenoid I bought as a spare ?
My bad I was thinking relay.
Go with quicklook2 on this one.
Get a new starter.
Looks like one of your posts is bent too.
Not particularly a good thing.
they sell starters with a solenoid on them already.
never saw a rebuilt or new starter without a solenoid in any parts store i go to.
i looked at your age, and understand i am not judging you, but i have a lot more years of experiences and they say replace the starter and stop being mcgyver.
The NAPA starter has eliminated that stupid spade connector. I'd get a brand new one if it was me, I've heard the rebuilt ones are sometimes just pulled off a junkyard car and cleaned off.
