oil sending unit
I have a 74 ford F-350 with a 460, I'm trying to replace the oil sending unit.Is a crowfoot wrench the only thing that can fit? If so does anyone know the size so I don't have to buy a complete set. Thanks for the help!!!

On a 1970, it is 9/16. Although I didn't try it, I doubt a crowfoot would work on mine. The barrel of the sender is too big in diameter, don't think a crowfoot would reach under far enough. If you have the room to swing it, a 9/16 tubing wrench like used on steel fuel lines would be less likely to round it off than a open end wrench. The hex is up tight to the bottom of the sender body, so a tubing wrench could be slid on closer to the block over the threaded pipe portion, then lifted up to engage the hex.

FYI, A crows foot is like an open end wrench, holds across two flats. But where the handle would be, is a square hole so a extension from a socket set will fit there to drive it. It can be used where you can't get a straight shot with a socket, yet it will work where there is not enough room to swing a open end or box. The offset effect of a crows foot works good on carb mounting bolts, distrib hold down, etc.
