transmission shudder

i have a 96 F-150 4x4 with i believe an aod tranny, it has a shudder when the converter locks up at less than highway speeds, out on the highway it doe not do it tire size is 33 12.50 15. can anyone help me with this?

I have no idea what your tranny prob is, other than maybe a band going bad.
But you should have an E4OD.

ok it could be an e4od im not too sure about these newer trucks i am possibly going to trade for a 76 F-250 4x4 and a 79 F-150 4x4 both super cabs

do a fluid and filter change the transmissions need clean fluid and filters! I had a 1994 F-150 that would do the same thing and i looked at the u-joints and loose bolts and found nothing till i changed the fluid and filter and no more problem! Good luck

thanks i am thinkin of trading for a couple of older trucks might just let them worry about it

i have a 94 f150 it shudders like that and they said it coulbe a vaccum line or something in thta nature i still cant find it

it is not a vacuum line.

you need to drain the trans AND the convertor and put in a new filter and fluid.

shudder will go away.

do a search been talked about a couple of hundred times.

depends on what kind of shape those trucks are in and what shape the truck you already have to say if that would be a good deal or not.

the 76 F250 and the 96 F150 can be see in gallery post trade in progress. i am also getting a 79 F150 and another 460 for the 250

Ok, when was the last time you did a complete tune-up? This can cause the shudder you are describing...trust me I've experienced this too! So, I decided to do a complete tune-up... autolite plugs, wires and bronze tipped (not aluminum) cap & rotor. Let me just say that the shudder was gone!! I never thought that the engine would have caused the shudder but , I was wrong! I just wanted to let you know that if your transmission has shudder to also check your engine before you decided to take it to a "tranny" shop just to be sure. Hope this information/experience helps.
