my family has been ford owners for 40 years. growing up my dad bought a new truck every few years, f-150 / 250s.we grew up on a property with quite a few acres and ever since i could reach the pedals and see out the windsheild at the same time, Ive been driving his trucks, im now in my 30s, in 04 with my first child on the way, i decided we needed a real family vehicle capable of towing a car trailer, or camper, going in the snow and hauling the family around. we out grew our explorer sport and thought a new "revolutionary" f 150 supercrew would be great so after a big chunk of hard earned cash for down money, i managed to work a deal to buy my first brand new vehicle, a black 04 f150 super crew xlt larriet, tan leather, flow thru console, 5.4, at, 18 inch wheels, sun roof, bed exstender, etc etc etc... I think its the nicest truck I could have bought at the time and in my opinion, maybe even now ...BUT.....I HATE THE THROTTLE RESPONSE, IT IS VERY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC AND I SHOULDNT HAVE TO SPEND $400 ON A PROGRAMMER TO FIX IT AFTER SPENDING OVER $30,000 ON THE TRUCK. I HAVE NEVER DROVE A TRUCK WORSE. I HATE THE FRONT END SHIMMY AT HIGHWAY SPEED, TIRES WERE BALANCED, ROTATED CANT FIGURE IT OUT. I HATE THE WATER THAT LEAKS INTO MY TRUCK AND FILLS THE ROCKER PANELS.
i love my truck but as a fellow motorhead i hate the driveability of it. the throttle response is truly horribly annoying, especially after years of building and driving carburated stuff. if ford doesnt fix it by the time im ready for a new truck , i might be signing off as a new ford owner....for me its just that bad especialy after all the fuss over the amount of "new technology" that was boasted about when thease trucks came out. sorry if I offended any one but I had to get that off my chest. thanks for letting me vent, and if any one can help me out with this stuff that would be great......
Rustfixer, you are not alone. I think ford mislead many a new f150 buyer with the 04's - 07's. The 08's are reported to have many of the problems fixed, but I've heard that one before. But with the 09's, the whole cycle starts again. Having had many of the issues with my 04 that you've had, many of them still not fixed to date I think I will give ford a break on my next new vehicle purchase. Also, if ford is really being honest about being more customer focused, shouldn't they do something to help out with all the problem trucks they have produced so far. It seems they think that their customers have really short memories and won't remember all the bs they have shoved down our throats with the last f150. And will just automatically buy the new one.
