I'm looking at buying a 2008 Lariat screw with 80K on it at Buick dealer. I was wondering if someone could run me an oasis report on it. I posted the vin # below. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm replacing my '98 Expy with the 5.4 2v motor that has 210K of flawless miles. I'm curious about the cam phaser, spark plug & exhaust manifold problems have read about on the threads. I'm wondering if these problems were fixed by the '08 MY. I know anything can happen, but it seems like there are really any posts on those problems for the '08's. Any opinions would be appreacited.

I believe most 08's are good to go. Engines with a build date of October 2007 or later had all the issues resolved. Build date is on the driver side valve/cam cover.

Just drop by your local Ford dealer. They can run you an OASIS report.

So yesterday I took this '08 truck to a friend's shop to put it on a lift and give it a final inspection before making the deal. As I pulled into his lot the truck starting shaking like it was going to stall and making a crazy racket like a rough running diesel. So we were convinced the cam phasers are shot. The thing was making such a terrible noise he said to hurry and get it back to the dealer before it died. I couldn't get a good look at the engine build date but the truck build was march '08. On teh way back it started running terrible at idle and threw a check engine light. So needless to say I ran away from the deal as fast as I could.

It could be something as simple as a broken inlet screen on the VCT solenoid jamming the solenoid, resulting in the camshaft being stuck in the full retard position. It's a $50 part on eBay and a $13 seal. Did you check the codes?

I was doing that with the date as well, kept thinking I had a bad vin #.

Not sure I fell confident in diagnosing it myself. Plus the price is too high to take the chance. Thanks for the help.
