Antivirus protection

Whats everyone running? I had Norton but it expired. I replaced it with Windows one care and it seems to be quicker. A few friends are just using AVG free and some mcAffee (sp?).

I actually dont use anything. I find that a antivirus slows down my computer a little and I just dont need them.

Norton is one of the better ones out there. Always alot of updates and whatnot.

I used to use one called protection plus it used to be good, but that was like 5 years ago now, and Im not sure they even make it anymore.

i had nortons, but it expired. i won't put anything back on here. unless you use the file sharing programs you usually are ok without the virius protection.

Even if you file share, there is ways to not get virus's. Education about what you are downloading is the biggest thing.

I use the AVG one. It has worked great forme. Nortons has been sucking and even the IT guys now recommend not to use Nortons. They are just not fast enough with upgrades. Where with AVG it updates daily for me and I have had no problems with it. When I had Nortons some viruses still got through. Avg warns me every time. I find AVG is better than Nortons and Mcafee.

I like the free AVG and it`s been working great.

Its good to know what you guys are having the best luck with. I guess in my first post in this thread, I should have based what i was talking about, about my previous knowledge of Norton. Since I dont use them anymore i guess im not up to date.

Hey Guys, I'm a certified Computer tech by trade. I have more than 20 years experience.

__________________________________________________ ________________
First off, Norton is the biggest piece of crap on the planet, followed very close by McAfee, rounding up the top 3, PC Cillian. Norton doesn't find SFA, and it might as well be a virue for how slow your machine becomes.

McAfee, well you might as well be running nothing at all. Unless your a Tech to get it setup right.

PC Cillin, never seen it work right in over 15 years.

I use AVG on my desktop and NOD32 on my laptop. Both are excellent. AVG is free, NOD32 can be made free.

Preppy, now adays, it is very likely that your going to get a virus from an unsuspecting source. Mostly viruses are in trojan form (that cute little bar in Internet Explorer that the wife installed) is probably a virus.

Being smart, is NOT using Internet Exploder at all. Get Firefox, Safari (for windows) or Opera. IE is too big of a Security threat.

Safari download

Opera download

Firefox download

Last with Broadband cheap and easy, everyone has it. BUT most do not have a proper firewall. Software firewalls are a JOKE, most 3rd grade hackers can bypass software.

Get a router, poof problem solved.

IE isnt as much of a security threat as people make it out to be, and no matter what anyone says, there is ways to be smart and not get virus's!

I havent had a virus in I dont know how long, and Im always on the net, always downloading, and various other things

I know firefox and mozilla are good dont get me wrong, but if you know what to look for IE can do ya just fine.

IE has too many backdoors, too many flaws.

From a professional stand point, IE is a HUGE security threat, and that isn't just my opinion, that is the general opinion shared among a large part of the professional world.

Buy yourself a router, and shut down Windows Firewall. the only thing it does is slows your system down. Other than that it really doesn't do anything else. A router is hardware, and very hard to bypass.
