Help this morning right after I started drivng the 4wd lo range indicater started flashing so i pulled over tried to put it in 4wd. nothing no light never locked in. the speedo also works on and off and i can't roll the drivers side window down while in gear only in park and neutral. Very strange don't know where to start this all just happen at once. I was told to try the plug in to the fusebox?? help please
Year? F-150's in the late 90's had problems with the GEM/fuse assembly getting wet and causing problems like your stating. inspect the fuse box/gem assembly under the drivers side kick panel for any signs of rust or corrosion. If you find it, thats more then likely your problem.
I sprayed all my connections to the fuse box and checked the power to the switch and 4wd motor all is ok everything else works now except the 4wd. The indicator lights are not coming on and is not engaging, the lights work when the ignition is in the on position. Any idea guys!!!
Get your GEM scanned for codes. You might have a P1867 (or P1687? can't remember which) code. Some of the shift motors rust up and the contact plates are unable to send a signal to the module of what state it's in(2Hi, 4Hi or 4Lo) so for safety it doesn't allow a shift. This will also cause the 4x4 light on the dash to not light up.
you could try the 4wd indicator switch...one time my Low Range light came on, but neither 4Hi nor 4low was engaged in transfer case or front end...however it did make the truck shift differently...had it replaced and havent seen the light come back on unless i lock it in....and the vacuum actuator is mounted on the front axle, its like a plunger deal with 2 vacuum hoses that go up to 2 different solenoids on the passenger side firewall behind the battery
