In the cold weather, after the truck is warmed up. When in lower RPM ranges some times, the intake or something will howl, really loud. It is only when the weather is around 45F or below. It has been doing it pretty much since new, just never took it in because it only happens when cold. It goes away once the RPMs get up into driving range, 1500 or so. It usually happens when going into reverse, or coming to a stop in 1st (manual trans), then will continue while at idle in N. Goosing the gas will usually not stop it but will sometimes. I have tightened all there is to tighten, so I don't think it's a leak. Just odd that it is temperature Dependant. Any help would be appreciated.
Well all of my newer Fords have had that "power steering" whine, but it only lasts a few seconds after starting... hang10 says that this noise comes after the truck has warmed up.
And that ps whine usually doesn't hit 'till the temps get around zero...
I had an idle bypass valve do the exact same thing on an explorer. Loosen it up and move it around to see what happens. You can start it up with the bolts loose and then move it around to see it the noise goes away or changes pitch. I ended up replacing it and the noise went away.
