Why do we all get along?

I've been realy board lately and been going threw the different diesel forums and I've noticed in othere fourms when people have a difference of opinion it useualy turns into a big argument and they get all pissy with each other and such and seem to be more concerned with being right than helping the person with a qustion. But in heer it doesn't seem to get pursonal when people disagree just curious of why that is in you're guys opinion.

One has to have an open mind to operate on these pages...... consider the guy reading the info you post....... if you do not give correct or as accurate info as possible, costs trying to fix something.... to that individual can be horrendous.

I use the 2 pages I operate on as therapy for me........the wife feels different though.

Arguments will only scare people away, I have seen on the other page, a whole crew of excellent very knowledgeable people abandon a page and go start their own.....OBN

There are those members on all forums who can't get along with the guy in the mirror but insist on belittleing or argueing with other members, if only for their own satisfaction.

My 2 cents........

Thats the biggest thing that keeps me in line.......

Other discussions can get a little heated on rare ocasions, but at the end of the day, I think the feeling is that we are all on the same team.

I'm here because I like to help out, and on occasion, get help. I do tend to walk away from discussions when the know-it-all's hit the scene, just because I tire of the garbage...

I have little to add here so I post very little. I do look every day and glean the posts for info to keep our 92 7.3 IDI and 97 stroke going and just to se what the regulars are posting about. I also like the fact that the boards are civil. Which we all know is not the case with most internet boards. Thanks to all who post for keeping this a nice place to visit.

Oh yeah? Well, your mama wears army boots!

Ok, just kidding.

We have good moderators, too. I think when someone gets a little testy, the moderators do a pretty good job of smoothing out ruffled feathers.

I like working on my truck, and have found everyone on here very helpful- some one has been there done that, no matter what! I also like to share what I know as a recipical sharing of knowledge. We all share a common bond in these old trucks- and as mentioned by others, this site is a relaxing and interesting place to spend liesure time. As far as ego's go we already have a big loud truck, don't need much else .

I think the moderator has alot to do with this section of the forums and how civil they are. I was wanting to start a post thanking Dave S. for how great a job he does with this section but I am just going to post it here instead. He gets 2 thumbs up from me, I used to hang out in the 67-72 section. But as that project is ending I have been wanting to get a diesel and have read alot of info here, and I have yet seen a post of Dave's that was not informative or welcoming to a new member.

Thanks!

Now my head is all swelled....

Thank you for the kind words.

I also have to pass praise along to all the people here, they make my job easy and fun.
I enjoy the time I spend here.

Everyone here belongs in the good guys group and will do their best to help everyone that comes looking for it.
We all had to learn somewhere, this is just the modern class room.
Everyone here either has or had an IDI diesel, most of them did the work on the truck themselves when it was broken.
Also we know when your truck is broke down, the owner is usually all stressed out.

So just work the problem, have a bit of fun and learn something.
I am amazed at how many people we have here that are from all over the world and we all get along.
The only thing we have in common is an engine, I say engine because we have several boat owners that come here as well.

My philosophy for life which I try to project here is simple,
Life is tough enough already, lets have a bit of fun.
Look at the problem, then work the problem, because we can fix it.
Sometimes it takes a bit to figure it out, working on an engine that you can't hear or see is a challange, but we can fix it.

FTE rules say no personal attacks, no selling in the forums, no legal actions and no offensive material.
Any of those will get your post deleted as soon as I read or see it.
The rest I just play by ear as it develops.

I think it is all about the rules and how the mods enforce them. Discussions get a little heated occaisionally, but we all know the rules and for the most part follow them. Those that don't, well Dave knows how to handle them

If you any amount of time on some of the larger scale forums such as FTEs diesel forums.com or Pirate4x4, you tend to appreciate what the smaller ones have to offer. There will be disagreements as with any diverse group of people. But they can be discussed without resorting to name calling and other childish stuff that goes on at other places. At the end of the day, I think we are all friends. This is a welcome place for both newcomers and IDI veterans to hang out. And there is a lot of useful information to be had.

My hats off to Dave for being a great moderator. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this forum. He is good about keeping things in check yet not overbearing about it (see the 73-79 FTE forum and you'll understand what I'm talking about, it's no fun there).

I have definately found this forum to help me tremendously. Most all the specific knowledge I have about 84-94 ford diesels I learned from here. I feel odd when offer advice to someone else. I want to help as you all have helped me, but I definately don't feel like I am an expert.. I just repeat back what I have learned from others here. Don't worry I will have more questions in the future!

This weekend I am actually buying a 1990 F250 4x4 supercab 5speed 4.10 gears (C5 axle code.. should be the LS Ford with 4.10.. i believe) It comes with a Banks Sidewinder (not installed) complete from the pyrometer to banks exhaust and muffler. I wouldn't have been willing to spend over $3000 on it if I hadn't been reading the forum here to know its value. IF it Just had the D60/61 front end..then I would be set!
