How much would you pay for a used edge programmer? The guy has everything included in the original package its just a few months old. He says the only update it had was last August. Would I be able to update even though I am not the original owner? So, my main question is what do you think is a good price.
Its a good mod. If nothing else the ability to change tire size , gear ratio, and many other aspects is awesome. It also has gauges and you can see Trans temp, oil temp, speed, rpm's, instant mpg, avg mpg, etc... It is really noticeable after you install it. Of course it does wear off after a while and you get used to it.
Just got one myself off ebay for 3 bills. Great mod. The power improvement using Level 2 is impressive. However, when I filled up with 93 octane and programmed to level 3 the engine went into failsafe mode and got code P061, whatever that means. I put it back into Level 2 and gave the guys Edge a call. Basically they told me it's a known issue with 07's and were surprised I had it on an 06. They took my info and told me they'd notify me when a fix is finished. Oh well, I'm more than happy with level 2. It's a whole new truck.
if i was going to buy a used one, my biggest concern would be the warranty... since you have to buy from an authorized distributor to get the warranty.... that would make me question if they honor to the second owner.
How is it though? I mine is it worth the money? I am not to concerned about a lot of hp gain, I mainly want the fuel economy.
I do not own one as yet mine is on order. From what I have read here on this forum if you are buying the edge to help with fuel economy you will probably be disappointed. I do not think that is what this mod is for. You are unlikely to see much gain in MPG if any. You may even get less because from what I understand it makes the truck more fun to drive. Juice around some if you know what I mean.
Back to your main question, I personally would not buy a used unit due to possible warranty issues as someone else mentioned. Especially for only a $100 savings.
I have had my Edge for a year and a half, about 32,000 miles running it (63,000 on my truck). Would not want to drive my truck without it. It normally helps on fuel economy only slightly if any, except, I now drive it like I stole it and get the same mpg. I have had no problems at all with mine. I keep it on level 3 with 93 octane. I get about 11% better mpg on level 3 over level 2, so it pays for the difference in fuel costs and I like the torque range much better for highway driving. One other thing, if you are buying a used unit, make absolutely sure that it was returned to stock program before it was removed from the seller's truck, or it is useless.
Yeah, I think I am just going to buy a new one. I will wait a few weeks for the tax return!! Now, where is the best place to buy one... I am on a budget though
I think you would be fine buying a used one off this site. I think most of the people selling them are longtime members with a good history. Anyways, good luck.
