Somehow my fog light bulb exploded inside the passenger side fixture. Now I have little pieces of glass and stuff just laying around in there that I can't get out. Any suggestions? Anybody else have this happen?
Yea, I had this happen twice in one week. If you have the rectangular fog lamps therewas a sealing issue of the socket. water gets in and gets the bulbs wet and they exploded. Ford fixed it in 06 when they went to the round style lamps. Suck out the pieces the best you can and when you install the replacement bulb, run a bead of silicon around the socket before you install the new light. Unfortunately, I didn't know this and 3 days later, my silverstar replacement bulb had also exploded!!
I'm sure we don't have to tell you not the touch the lense on the bulb etc...
I put a new bulb in and I haven't had a problem since. I didn't notice a seal problem, the socket seemed to fit snug. I will add some silicone when I take the bulb out to clean out the fixture. Thanks for the replies.
Yup, these were OSDRAMS-Sylvanias. Starting on 06, Ford switched to Phillips. Although, it's more of a sealing issue than the actual bulb failing in this manner.
A non-Sylvania halogen is less likely to explode. Or at least when comparing theirs to Philips or GE. Sylvania's handling practice during the manufacturing process are what causes their lamps to explode more often then other halogen manufacturers.
Dont forget to use something to insulate your fingers from the halogen bulb while installing. Oil on your fingers will make these bulbs pop because they get so hot. Prob the water prob tho.
I have went through 4 sylvania 9005ST bulbs in my round fog lights. I never touch the bulb. They are not exploding but they just burn the filament out. I bought 3 of them before I started using the warranty on them. $20 a pop adds up quick.
Mr Posi- how long are your bulbs lasting? I know Ford switched to phillips on your truck since they tend to last longer than the sylvanias, but if your bulbs are burning out fast, you probably have some sort of wiring or load issue.
