I have a 2002 ford ranger everything stock. its the 4.0 liter V6. i was curious which would be smarter if i want a deeper sound? Just a performance muffler or do the CAT back. Any inputs??? also i'd like to hear some sound clips if possible if anyone has any
I started with a Flowmaster 40. It was just to loud for me. In cab res. was more than I could take. But I'm 70.
Switched to a Magnaflow. Better but still loud. In cab res is somethng I can live with. But still not really happy.
Magnaflow has audio clips of V-6 rangers on their website.
I love my 40 series but I could do with less in cab resonance. The delta flow 40 series has less resonance and retains the sound of the 40 series. My 40 series single inlet/dual outlet with 3.5" magnaflow slash cut rolled edge stainless tips installed was only $260 so I didn't think that was too bad.
I also have a 40 series on my truck and i love it...here is a clip of them on youtube. Sorry bout the quality u cant really see the tips and its kinda low because it was recorded with the cell phone...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KbXUui7wwg
Also the gibson site has sound clips of thier different cat backs on different vehicles. They have a sound clip of an explorer with the 4.0 with thier dual sport, thats why I had one on my ranger and the quality is top notch and priced secent.
Also depends on what state you're in. The Gibson is legal in most, and the few it isn't it's quiet enough to not seem out of place.
Here in MA it is now illegal to be louder than the loudest factory option for your specific vehicle in your model year. So my Mercury Cougar cannot be as loud as a stock Mustang Cobra of the same year. Dumb, but true. My Flowmatser 40 series past state inspection in 2003-2007. Failed this year because they changed the laws and are enforcing them. I have now been pulled over twice cruising at interstate speeds for Altered Exhaust, because it's louder than stock. In the 4 years prior I was pulled over once at 1 am in a hill town because the one cop in town was standing outside his truck when I accelerated past him, and it echoed off the mountains.
Depends what kind of hassle you want to get the sound you want.
